by Lionel Rolfe

Lionel Rolfe is a member of a rare and fading species: a California bohemian--the spiritual descendent of Jack London and Mark Twain and those writers, poets, and knockabout newspaper reporters who made Big Sur, Venice West, and Echo Park part of American literary folklore.

In Fat Man on the Left (California Classics Books/tradepaper, 184 pages), Rolfe weaves together his personal journey through the free-spirited 1960s and 1970s when he met and married the girlfriend (and band member) of an innovative rock composer (Frank Zappa) who (in the spirit of the times) had a wife and family. The journey including a stint in the Communist Party (yes, there really was such a party) ended in the 1990s when Rolfe and his wife split--leaving the author with a rich (excuse the adjective) store of memories to get through these more arid (and conservative) times.

This book can be personally autographed and will make the perfect gift for old lefties, would be flower children, 60s buffs, and those readers (of all ages) who appreciate spirited writing.

Printed on acid free paper, and extremely well designed, Fat Man on the Left is available from American Legends for $11.25 ($12.15 Calif. residents). This is a 25% discount off the publisher's list price of $14.95. Please add $2.50 for postage and handling.
